The Los Angeles Bartitsu Club

Developed in England in 1898 by E. W. Barton-Wright, Bartitsu is one of the first examples of a “Mixed Martial Art”, combining Japanese Jujitsu, English scientific boxing, French kickboxing, and Swiss cane fighting. In Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Adventure of the Empty House, Sherlock Holmes credits “baritsu” for his victory over Professor Moriarty at Reichenbach Falls. The LA Bartitsu Club is dedicated to exploring the techniques, tactics and principles of this “Gentlemanly Art” as it was taught by Barton-Wright at the original Bartitsu Club in London.
